Dubuque Iowa

The Grand Harbor resort and water park is a new hotel, water park and convention center. It is located right on the new river walk and Mississippi. The river walk is a great place to relax and watch river barges and train traffic. It is a very comfortable hotel across the parking lot from the Diamond Jo Casino. The casino is a riverboat now but under construction is a brand new land based casino.

Also in the same parking lot area is the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium which is a Smithsonian affiliate. The museum has a large aquariums showing mostly first from the Mississippi. The museum also a Riverboat museum with many artifacts. You can also go onboard several riverboats currently under restoration. There are craft workshops and outside a wetland area.

Dubuque is also known for the Fenelon Place Elevator. The Fenelon Place elevator is described as the world's shortest, steepest scenic railway, 296 feet in length, elevating passengers 189 feet from Fourth Street to Fenelon Place. Being only a few miles from Galena Illinois, Dubuque has similar historical and architectural areas and buildings.
